The Samsung 990 EVO Plus is the drive we recommend when someone asks for “just a good 1TB SSD”. It reads at up to 7,150 MB/s and writes at up to 6,300 MB/s, so game loads, large file copies and Windows updates are noticeably quicker. It is single-sided and runs cool without a heatsink, which makes it a safe fit for thin laptops and the PS5 expansion slot. It works as PCIe 4.0 x4 or PCIe 5.0 x2, so it will also run at full speed in a newer board that only has a Gen5 x2 M.2 slot. Rated for 600 TB of writes with a 5-year limited warranty, plus Samsung Magician for health monitoring and firmware updates.
