Overview
The WD Red Plus 8TB (WD80EFPX) is the drive we recommend for home and small-business NAS units from Synology, QNAP, Asustor and TerraMaster. It uses CMR recording — not SMR — so RAID rebuilds and sustained writes behave the way a NAS expects, and the NASware 3.0 firmware is tuned for 24/7 operation in systems of up to eight bays.
At 5640 RPM with a 256MB cache it runs cooler and quieter than 7200 RPM drives, which matters when the NAS sits in a living room or office. Rated for a 180TB/year workload and 1 million hours MTBF, and backed by a 3-year Western Digital warranty. Bring your NAS in and we can install the drive and set up the volume for you.
